Our Mission

Founder Hugo Rijpma holds an MA in Art History & Book History and worked as a specialist at the Rijksmuseum and various antiquarian dealers. As an independent researcher he has published several articles on (art)history.
With Artem he wants to approach the trade as a researcher rather than a classic antiquarian dealer. By delving deep into every object we acquire we choose quality over quantity.

At Artem we aim to be interdisciplinary and forward thinking. This opens the possibility to look at objects from a different angle, and to find new stories. We keep track of what is relevant today and tomorrow by following changing viewpoints and shifting narratives in academic research.

Our focus is intercultural transatlantic early globalisation, or in other words: Colonial History. We aim to provide institutions with a more diverse range of paper heritage to broaden their collections.
