Unrecorded provincial edition of a decree that abolishes the payment of bonuses and gratuities granted the slave trade: “No bonuses, incentives, or gratuities, even if due, for reasons related to the slave trade, may be paid under any pretext whatsoever.” France had long subsidised the trade in enslaved individuals in order to keep the plantation economy going, especially in Saint-Domingue (Haiti).
